carlo.comments: Going Paleolithic

wow, I haven't been part of a nice thread hijacking like this since PJG days, or maybe gblog dot net

    Welcome home, then. :P

This approach fits perfectly in all the back-to-the-roots and ritual stuff. But I like the simple and descriptive listing and the suggestions suitable for daily use. First I thought about including every item in each day - leading me directly into a time trap :-(
But as a start, doing all things more (really) conscious would help.
BTW: I really can relate to your 5km-straight-run-miracle.
PS: Killing animals: I outstripped this task in my childhood ;-)
  • Carlo Zottmann · 1 year ago
Oh God, if you wanted to cram all of this into each and every day, you'd never be home anymore. Plus you'll probably experience a nervous breakdown, three days in. ;)

Re "I can relate": are you running, too?
  • jr · 1 year ago
I'm not sure I want to be killed by animals after throwing rocks at them in the moonlight, but it would help be run and discover new land, albeit for a little while.

When you list it like that it sounds like it's a bad concept. Let's ignore the "killed by animals" part. :)

I basically gave up WoW for Geocaching, which includes several of the paleolithic activities you listed. (At least 6 of them, but arguments could be made for a few more...) I haven't been able to do much caching lately (broken foot makes it difficult) but I'm determined to go back out with a vengeance once my foot heals.

Ok, true story: As I was editing the above comment a moment ago, there was a knock on my door. It was someone looking for a geocache I have set up at my apartment.

    :)

Hah, nice. :) I think giving up WoW for a more physical activity is a good idea. Still, I do plan on going back to WoW once WotLK hits. I do not plan on giving up running, tho. Since I've started in April, I feel healthier and more fit, and had a lot of great "I did it!" moments doing it. That is quite something.

Sorry to hear about the foot. How did it happen?

I was playing on my company softball team in the league semi-finals. In an attempt to avoid tackling the first baseman as I was heading to second, (she was not paying attention) I tried to dodge, and executed an almost graceful tumble. I say almost graceful because I managed not to take out the other player, but I broke 3 metatarsals in the process. There is an x-ray photo posted on my flickr stream, if you're curious. :)

I was awarded second base due to interference, and my replacement runner scored the winning run.

So you took one (or 3) for the team. That's what I call spirit! ;)

Sounds painful, tho. How long will the healing take?
  • Robert · 1 year ago
I did take one for the team. We lost the next night to a team of ringers.

It was painful. I'm in this blue cast until the 26th, at which point, it will be removed, and x-rays taken to see how the healing is progressing.

Hopefully, I'll be able to get a walking cast at that point. (Just to note, I broke my foot on July 10.)

Yes. Sounds pretty good. If only there weren't 80 hours work a week already. =)

    Maybe less work, more fun?

    Might be an idea.

hey Carlo - i cant but fully agree. being more active, having your body experience exercise in any form and your senses experience new sensations makes life worth while; and as you say sitting in front of a computer screen doesnt help, so finding the right balance is o so important.
im swimming, playing tennis and want to learn sailing to compensate, i hope to keep it up after starting a new job again :D
anyway, way to go, keep it up !

Hey Arno! Nice of you to stop by. :)

Oh, sailing sounds nice. Dana and I were talking about learning to sail a while ago, as there are a number of sailing schools at the Bavarian lakes. Never managed to get past the talking phase, tho. ;) Yesterday there was an "Engineering Breakout Session", and we went kayaking. That was wonderful. I am a bit proud about it being my idea (hehe), and almost everyone seemed to have a good time. So much fun. We took the train towards the Alps, to a small town upstream, and then went down the Isar for about 11-12 km.

It was so good that I've decided to do it again soon, but this time with Dana and without the guides. Renting the equipment and travelling down the (rather tame) Isar.

    hi Carlo !

sorry for the late reply - just back from a trip to the lowlands:
    http://arnoplug.wordpress.com/

kayaking is great: and in the Alps, that must have been very nice.
We have done something similar in Spain on our outings at Y!,
we normally went to the mountains close to Madrid; an hours drive,
    as not bad at al.

    take care

    a.
