#4 is depressing the hell outta me, but true when communities get bloated. What's the alternative - elitism/exclusivity? G-blog works really well for me. A very small number of my friends have joined up so they can post comments A, or start up their own blog B.
It would be nice in GB2 if anonymous users could post without having to sign up. IP Logging would help ensure that nastiness from fuckwads and trolls (random drive-by posting) are kept to a minimum or even zero.
Privacy in GB2: Is there a way to keep G-blog Member X from reading my posts? This (non)issue has come up elsewhere and the site/community mods didn't have a solid answer.
Being able to upload your own CSS design would be awesome. Not that I know the first thing about CSS anyway.
Posting histories: A link or page that shows where G-blogger X has been commenting or which categories he/she has been posting to.
Bryan Bell's Candid Blue looks sweet (:
Is it just me or is there a growing number of LJ-GB crossovers?

Death to the demon Livejournal!
Sadly, I think your outline of the life of an online community is spot-on. Having a good site gives you a double-edged sword that way. It's so good lots of people end up coming, but by that happening, you often lose the great thing you had about it in the first place.
I'm greatly looking forward to v.2. :)
No. Open community, at least when it comes to reading.
Regarding anonymous commenting: I just had a wicked idea to keep bots from posting spam crap. Worth a shot, anyways. You'll see.
Posting histories: interesting idea. I mean that. :)
Waaaaah!
:)
I'm one of them. I started here at GB and I intend to keep this my main blog site. OTOH, I have too many friends on LJ who have locked posts that I want to read. Hence, I needed/wanted an account there. I use that account for stupid quizzes, trying to con more people into coming over to GB, and for stuff that I wanted locked. And horoscopes. But everything else ends up on GB. I prefer GB for a great many reasons, though I do think LJ has some good ideas too.

At the same time I think this might be a good chance to clean out the old stuff. I'll probably delete all unused accounts that had no activity within the last 6 months or so.
Ahem.
