Is there any way to attempt to recover costs from the guy hitting your site?

Is his script responsible for the massive increase in page views we've been seeing for the last few weeks?

Xyleth, these guys ain't dumb, they're ...assholes. They'd pass the test, trust me. But once again, ethics aren't worth much on the 'net. :/

terpsichoros, re "recovering costs": I wish. And yes, I think it was responsible for the higher numbers. It wasn't just hitting the frontpage, it was actually crawling more or less the whole site to somewhat cover its tracks. That's why I didn't notice right away. Feh.

This way or the other, I hope the MySQL usage levels are going back to normal now.

I often times forget that English is not your native language, even on those rare occasions when we converse via IM. It actually startled me one time when you told me you weren't sure you were using a word correctly.

If only US schools began teaching other languages before High School, perhaps many of us would be able to communitcate in German (or French, or Japanese, or...) as well as you do in English.

An old joke my High School French teacher once told us:
If you speak three languages, you're tri-lingual
If you speak two languages, you're bi-lingual
If you speak one language, you're American.

BTW, good job on catching that fuckhead and banning his bot/site. Mark Pilgrim would be proud of your bandwidth saving measures. :)

I am often surprised when I see one of Gossip's entries written in German. It takes a few seconds for me to remember why he does that :)
