Mmmmmmm. Code tags. Thanks. Happy now ;)
  • master · 6 years ago
It's mighty greasy "under the hood", but there's lots of cool stuff in there :) I'll be helping Gossip out as a co-developer (since he's got a heavy workload at work right now). Anyways, I hope you all like the new tags (there's even more than you think, but we've given you the most useful to play with).

Thank you for all the work you put into this thing. ::huggles::

What exactly do people use the "strike thru" option for? I've never really understood that. Is it just a way to keep track of changes or what?
  • claudine · 6 years ago
I've generally seen strike through used humourously, eg in reference to someone's boss from hell kind and considerate manager.

Looking at the unbbcode() function, it seems there must be some way to parameterize the function instead of having one case per tag.

If nothing else, a simple list of code, tag pairs could be used for most of the simple transformations, like bold, italic, abbreviations, et cetera. Then the oddball ones like img and list could be done in special cases. That would cut down on the redundant code in there.

    claudine - that makes sense

Spam, if you could demonstrate (maybe a little pseudo code) of what you mean, I'd like to see it. All of the BBCode translators I've seen seem to do something similar to what we did. It is very easy to add or delete something out of the array right now, and it's a lot more elegant than it was previously.

But if you have a better way to do this, please share :)

I'm not saying that it's horrible code, merely that there's redundancies that can be "factored out", if you will.

I'll post the code to the GLUE development forum. I've actually got something similar, if slightly more complicated, already working in a project that I'm doing. It doesn't generalize to cover all the tags that unbbcode() handles, but it does cover most of the simple cases.

Umm, Abbreviation tags do nothing? ... italic test .. citation test
  • -Kay- · 6 years ago
Spoilers dont work, and Citation, looks identicle to italics...
  • Zhaneel · 6 years ago
Spoilers are never supposed to work in comments.

I still wish we could do a custom tag in between, and I'm not sure why the citation looks exactly like italics either.

Abbreviations don't seem to work in comments (or at least preview). <abbr title="Abbreviation">Abbrev</abbr>.
