    Bad luck with the car.

    Hope your trip ges well.

Thanks for the link, it looks really interesting. Wish i'd gone there sooner!

Yeah, sudden expenses are nasty. If it wasn't for a recent backdated pay-rise at work I'd be hard pressed to deal with my ridiculously large bike insurance payment next month.

And woah, that avatar's a bit ominous... ;)

Oh dear - sorry to hear about the car. Are they able to fix it before your Mum's birthday though? I hope so. And I agree with Lupus - the avatar is definitely scary - is it a halloween thing :)

We'll be using my car up to drive there. Better engines, more comfort, lower fuel price. ;)

I had a friend who thought it was best to just buy a $300 (or so) car and drive it until it broke down, then simply get another one. Much lower insurance rates for those old klunkers, too.

    Grar, cars suck.

This is why I got a warrenty on my new car. I'll trade it in before that runs out and do it again. ;-)

Yeah, it's an old rig, so it's sorta supposed to break down. Ah well.

Got to love the contrast between YoungBeard and Gossip's avatars though... :)

People razz me about it, but I bought a Honda 2 years ago. American cars be damned, I haven't had to repair a single thing in that time, other than the usual oil changes and such. You have to give it to honda though, I still see some of the old civics and their original "rollerskate" cars from the early 80's trundling around.

Sorry to hear about your breakdown, it is usually the worst time when things like that happen. I once had a pontiac fiero, and the damn tie-rod broke as I was going around a corner, the entire wheel plunged up into the fenderspace and locked, solid. Oh, and it was winter in sub-zero weather, so I totally feel for you there, my friend.

$300 for a COIL!? What are you driving? A 1935 Bugatti?

A coil should cost $20 and take 2 mins to fit.... Might be worth a few questions mate....
  • Carlo Zottmann · 7 years ago
No, not $300 for a coil. The mechanic has to be paid, and there are some other things that need replacement. It's a big mess actually. For what they do, it's kinda cheap. :)

Des, that sounds awful... did you crash into something because of the locked wheel? Or did the car just stop?
  • Desiato · 7 years ago
The car just went "sproing" and the tie-rod snapped, in the middle of a slow turn. I'm glad I wasn't on the highway, because going at that speed would've resulted in smashing into something very fast. It scared the hell out of me, honestly. Even after it was fixed, I never quite trusted that car again...(but that is another tale..)

Oh, I know that feeling, alright... this one time I didn't manage to break properly anymore and smashed into a 3' side barrier thingie; the brakes and the shock absorbers in my old VW Golf/Jetta were not in best shape anymore. I repaired everything and replaced the brakes and the absorbers, but I always expected something else to break down after that... couldn't help it.
