From what i saw, it looks like they're doing some pretty crazy stuff with this one. i'm looking forward to checking it out, it should be cool.

I really look forward to it. I caught onto The Matrix late.. not sure why. I think at the time I was just really busy and not paying attention. I heard someone mention on a game web board how good it was but didnt know anything about it when I finally went to see it.

My jaw literally dropped within the first minutes of the movie. I was blown away. No movie has ever done that before or after. I love that movie :) It has so many layers to it.

Obviously I am eagerly awaiting the sequel and have high expectations.. which I hope dont ruin it for me.

Kind of funny.. I am looking forward to seeing the new Star Wars movie but my expectations have really been lowered because of Episode 1. Dont get me wrong, I liked Episode 1 and I am sure I will like this one, but it's missing that special something you cant quite put your hands on.

Matrix is on my "top 10 favorite" movies of all times, it's great. I love the acting, the costumes, the idea, the effects, the script--everything!

is waiting impatiently for the sequels

    is squirming

I really caught onto the Matrix late, as in, haven't bothered yet. I get contrarian: the more people hype something to me, the more I ignore it.

Kept me free of peer pressure when I was a kid, and probably out of a lot of trouble. :-)

And I really try not to get my hopes up about sequels. As I understand it, The Matrix was done so masterfully, a sequel can't help but seem lame next to it - because if nothing else the sequel won't be as groundbreaking.

On the flipside, Attack of the Clones almost can't help but be Much Better than Phantom Menace. I mean, really.

{in hushed whisper} I hear Jar Jar is only in it for a few short minutes...

I dunno, the reviews are pretty bad.

Me and Pose got tickets for Saturday night. I guess we'll see for ourselves, but if it does disappoint, the Outback Steakhouse dinner that will follow definitely won't.

I worry little about things like that. Besides, the Queen's dresses promise to provide eye-candy again. :D

I still think this comic about Ep II by Illiad was freakin' inspired:

Istvan, I can't believe you two still haven't seen Matrix.

Hype, schmype - grab a copy somewhere and watch it. Just trust me on it. It's one of the most influental movies of the last decade, you're denying a part of this decades culture by not watching it.

    (Note to self: excellent argument.)
  • Tripwire · 7 years ago
Istvan, you need to go out right now and get The Matrix and watch it. You won't be sorry. Besides no one is hyping it now... er.. except here :)

loved the first part, and the good thing about scifi action, is that even if the plot happens to suck, you can mostly enjoy the special effects at least. ^_^

So Im definitely looking forward to the sequel :)

#11 LOL, Gossip! Good argument indeed, but I'm so out of touch with current pop culture, I hardly see why I should start now!

I don't watch TV (no time or interest), I listen to 80's music on the radio (well, classic rock - the Denver 80's station just died a few weeks ago), I'm like a troglodyte with my books, games, and web browsing. I'm sure my suit and ties are desperately out of fashion, and since I don't wear a hat backwards and my pants have too few pockets and generally cover my butt, I'm sure I'm way out of style. Actors' names mostly mean nothing to me: I don't think I've ever seen a movie with Nicole Kidman in it, and the last thing I saw Tom Cruise in was Top Gun - which I saw on videotape. Probably the last few movies I've seen in the theater, in reverse chronological order, were:

Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
    Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
    Star Wars: The Phantom Menace
    GalaxyQuest
one or two bad Star Trek movies #8? #7? Both?
    Stargate

See a trend there? I'm a little insular.

It'd be a waste to see the Matrix on my TV, anyway. It was bought in like '81 and is pretty dinky.
  • Istvan · 7 years ago
Ooo, ooo, I can also remember seeing a Bond movie in there somewhere... :-)
  • Carlo Zottmann · 7 years ago
GOOD LORD, do something!! Let's all chip in and buy the man a movie ticket for a "great movies from the past" screening... ;)

But honestly. Grab the DVD or a rip on the net and watch it on your monitor if your TV set's too old.

Galaxy Quest was excellent, by the way. Which reminds me that I've only seen it once. Damn, gotta do something about it. Well, first I need to watch the second half of SW:AotC. BBL.

Heh, heh. But THAT might require possessing a DVD player or DVD-ROM drive, wouldn't it...?

It's just that I've chosen to spend my time not on movies. I'm sure they're plenty enjoyable. I've just had other priorities.

The average American watches what, 6 or 12 hours of television each week? I don't recall the statistic. Well, I don't do that and there's still no darn time for everything!
  • Lilith · 7 years ago
I believe it is scarier than that. The statistic I saw was much higher than that (x hours/day). Can anyone find it for us?

However, watching a good movie once is not the same as watching TV for hours on end daily. Don't be so stuffy about it! :P
  • Istvan · 7 years ago
:-P I'm not meaning to be stuffy! Quite a few of my local friends tease me routinely about being so out of touch. My pop-culture ignorance is usually pretty funny.

It's just all about time. If I went to see every good (and mediocre) movie out there, even sticking to genres I like, I'm sure I'd spend a couple hours every other week at the theater. My cats already hate me for not paying enough attention to them! I've got two or three "hobbies" that I used to enjoy but I never do anything with anymore, because other stuff takes precedence. I've just decided there are certain things I'm OK with missing out on. Afraid that means I don't know diddly about most of the good movies and TV shows out there, I miss out on the cool/funny commercials (but even I heard about "Whazzaaaaaap!"), and have no clue what the latest funny expressions are, or at least their context is lost on me...
  • ekoostik · 7 years ago
    stuffy! stufffyyy!! ;P

I'm with ya, i'd cancel cable if my apt complex didn't pay for basic cable.

Movies, on the other hand, i love watching movies :)
  • Istvan · 7 years ago
Wow, free cable? I didn't think that existed. Or is it a hidden charge in your rent...?
  • Carlo Zottmann · 7 years ago
    Haha... touché. ;)
  • Tripwire · 7 years ago
I barely watch an hour or two a week of TV. However, I do like to at least rent one movie a week and watch it on the weekend. I'll probably go out and see Star Wars this weekend.

You definitely need to invest in a DVD player of some kind. It is well worth it. Once you get used to the quality of DVD's you'll never go back.
