Those parents should be put behind bars. But they shouldn't live on bread and water. I would suggest an eye for an eye - errr - burger for an burger approach.
Which reminds me of really disgusting story I once heard where an elderly woman stuffed a fat little boy with a bratwurst, an ice cream, a bratwurst, an ice cream, a bratwurst...
Until the boy couldn't help himself and vomitted across the table right on his auntie. Served her right.
Luckily they're at least doing this
Oh well.
McDonalds came out with a short-lived campaign awhile ago saying, "Chicken nuggets - now with white meat" or some such. Begging the question: what were they making it before that? I'm also weary whenever a large corp unleashes something as questionable as their "I'm hating loving it" ad campaign. Jeez. It's everywhere. 99 Billion served. How insecure can this company be? What dastardly plot could they have in the works? Granted, I haven't read Fast Food Nation yet, but oh the stories I've heard. Good thing I've consciously altered my wreck of an eating habit. From mostly ffj (fastfood junk) to healthier homecooked meals. But then I'm an adult and can make decisions for myself. If I have a burger once every six weeks, a mile-walk every other day can help offset that. Kids you have to guide and look out for.
Sure they have high metabolism and all that (not those kids in the pic), but the lack of responsibility on whoever's taking care - or lack thereof - of them is appaling.
I may be jumping the gun. Maybe these kids have glandular problems. Maybe they're really just big to begin with. I know my kids (we're talking waaay in the future, maybe 2010) won't see a lot of ffj. A lot of sushi, sure. That and a rigorous ninja-training program starting at the age of two.
Oh my own little ninja army. Four little dudes (with names like Donatello, etc.) and a pretty little girl I'll name April.
(:
This is one for the 'people are broken' category, if ever there was one. :-(
Interesting aside - Those kids in the picture aren't American - take a close look at the poster in the window behind them - I can't quite make out if it's backwards, but it appears to be Russian maybe?

There was a very interesting documentary on the Beeb a little while back looking at McD's and the global brand. They were suggesting that by the sheer proliferation of McD's and the usually poor service in the restaurants they were devaluing the McD's brand and the brand (and therefore company) was in a nosedive. Refreshingly, the CEO of McD's agreed, and outlined his plan to get back on track which included better meal options, refurbishment of restaurants to make them nicer enviroments rather than lard-based-cafes, and more staff training (although the personnel these outfits sometimes attract - especially in the UK - are not the most receptive to training). Good to hear he at least acknowledged the problem.
