Problem with EVE, for me, is that once the shineyness and novelty has worn off it gets dull real quick.

Your screenie says you have 27k skillpoints. Want to get out of that frigate into a cruiser so you can make some real money? You're going to need 800k ~ 1 million Skill points. Want a battleship? 6 million skill points plus.

It takes months to get those kind of skill levels. Litterally months. A single skill to level five can take three weeks or more even with all the learning skills maxed out (which in itself can take a month or more the achieve). In the mean time you're stuck doing the same old mission grind or mining. You can't effectively trade because you don't have the ISK. You can't fight because you don't have the skills to use the equipment. All you can do is mine and run agent missions and after the seven hundreth time of picking up some lazy bastards shopping and running it home for them you're about ready to throw your monitor out of the window.

!addquote I have to do a lot more travelling, I think, but the size is great.

Xyl, you might be right, I won't argue with that. As I've said, this is my 2nd/3rd day of EVE, and so far, I'm still impressed. ;) Might wear off soon, I can't tell. For the moment, for me, it's just perfect.

If the skill point jumps are really that big, then this could become a problem for me, indeed.

Well you have to look at what you need just to fly a ship and what you need to be effective in it.

You could probably fly a batttle ship with maybe 2 million skill points. But if you want to be any more use than a fart in a hurricane in it then you're talking six to eight million SPs.

Still, glad to hear you're enjoying it :)

I tried it for the free month that came with it. Really liked the game as far as beautiful graphics, functionality and such...but as xyleth said, running missions and mining get quite boring. A friend from jumpgate thats in EVE said that it does get boring, but gets much better when u join a corp. I never gave it that opp, maybe I should have. It also kinda sucks that you cant pilot your ship...which is understandable for warping and such, but just toodling around mines and drone enemies would be nice to hop in the pilot seat. The game itself requires more skill and less clicking...but im biased towards Jumpgate that way.

I have to agree with Xyleth, but I'll also say that the $19 I spent was money-well-spent for the month or 2 that I got of enjoyment out of it. I considered it an interactive movie (which Eve definitely holds tight to that look if anything) which didn't suck. But, you can only watch a movie so many times before it's time to put it back in it's case on the shelf for a while.

The web-based view of skill progression had me in awe as well. Simple, yet very cool to have. Real nice for when my skills start to take 2-3 days real time to learn the next level. It's tempting to start up my account again, I wonder if it saved my ship. I had a pretty nicely upgraded frigate that tore things apart with missles.

Mining got old for me (*gasp*) in Eve, but I found the combat very exhilarating. Maybe I could run for defense for the G-Man while he licks rocks. :)

Oh yeah, we can never seem to get on at the same time in games =/

By now I'm convinced it's a law of this very universe.

As for corporations, I think I'll go a couple of days solo but then join some crew. Not sure which yet, tho.

Draaz still loves it. Then again, he never got bored with E&B, either. *shrugs*

I'm still enjoying it after a month, but I'm not devoting a huge amount of time to it (not even joining OV).

As another minor aside - while the escrow system is nice, its cheaply implemented and lacks decent browsing/search facilities.
  • Carlo Zottmann · 5 years ago
Yes, I miss the escrow search feature as well. It can be quite a hassle to look for that special something, even more so since everyone can enter any title for his/her escrow offer. Sometimes it looks Ebay'ish. ;)

Still, it has an escrow service.
