Well, I think you're right... I mean, if I look around here in my office - these are socially integrated people, not just nerds who stick to eachother.

I'm glad evolution does its job. =)

I am slightly different variation on a theme of a geek, I suppose. I a science (not really computer) geek--as far as computers are concerned, I am a careful and informed user who RTFM-s and tries to not do stupid stuff to the computer.

In high school, it was not fun at all (cheerleaders were the queens of the female HS population), but in college it got better. Now I work with a bunch of other science geeks, and plan to go to school (for a Ph.D.) in a year or so with a larger bunch of science geeks. Moreover, most of my friends (and my ex-fiancee, don't ask) are science and/or computer geeks as well.

Not all (male) geeks wear huge glasses and suspenders, and none that I know pick their noses. Most of them are young men who read, and have brains enough for an interesting conversation. A lot of them are nice-looking and well-sociallized.

Speaking of which, FS_Falcon_ (Fatal Shadows leader in JG and out) is a really good-looking guy with a wife and two cute kids (I saw a picture). He also calls himself "King Geek". With pride, I must add.

I, too, am glad we are evolving. :)

This place is almost as much fun to me as college. Here are people who have considerable common ground: similar interests, similar ways of looking at the world, yet with enough variety that we're not lemmings; there are novel insights all over the place. That's what I found when I went to college, escaping the lonely purgatory that was high school.

It makes me quite enjoy hanging about on this site. I like you people.

And we even appear capable of disagreement without getting nasty. Rare.

I think it's because the site is small and not too crowded. OTOH it might be possible that it attracts a different breed of netizens than -say- a gaming site.

Up until now I think the site is doing pretty well. Still interested how's it going to be once it gets more crowded.

I agree Istvan, it seems to be a nice close-nit community here so far. I think it helps because PJG is a game-oriented community....yeah, their your buddies that you fly with and kill once in awhile, but all the chat is focused on gameplay, bugs and such. While here, its much more general, civilized. We can talk about our days and ramble about love....or the absence of in my case...and anything we talk about here doesnt have to relate to the game. We dont have to be IC and RP all the time, its nice.....thx gossip =)

I am not generally IC unless I want to insult someone on PJG. I like this place for the same reasons you do, though--it's not all JG. Since JG does not make up all of my life, I like this site better.

It helps that most everyone is polite here, too.
