    No more Team PJG?
  • Carlo Zottmann · 5 years ago
The team is still in existence, but I left it. Not bound to JG anymore, so...

So, basically, it's a way for people to utilize your CPU power or something like that?
  • Carlo Zottmann · 5 years ago
Yep. Look here for a very short introduction. I chose to donate my spare CPU cycles to their Cancer Research project.

    Ok, thanks.

History of Cancer in the family, so it gets the spare cycles from my new shiny 2.7 :) It's going to have fun with 100% of the power tonight.

Gossip, the link you posted didn't work right, but I think I found it, anyway. Not sure accessing through dial-up would be very beneficial for them, though. I might try it out on the hubby's computer at home. Heh

Mind out though, the default option when you install the United Devices client is 'Patriot.net', not something I really wanted to donate CPU time to. Untick that check box, and you're left with just the cancer project.

Bleh. I can't install it at work because I can't figure out the right proxy address. Damn them admins...

Well that's better than me, I can't install it at work because I dont have a computer. Not one of my own anyway. There is a computer (Pentium II runing NT4, I believe) taht 20 or so tape monkeys share for the purpose of reading email.

It'd be cool if I could install the UD client in the lab (200+ machines most of them dual P4 at 2GHZ) but they don't have external network access, (mmmm sequestered network) the machines get wiped and reconfigured on a regualr basis, and I'd get in so much trouble it isn't even funny.

I can't figure out how to change what my primary task is (my install defaulted to Smallpox, which is okay but I'd prefer Cancer).

You log in to your members account at [Link] and change your settings on your "My device manager" page. There is a link to profile settings. The profile is the place where you tell the system what projects you want to donate CPU time for.

Jeck, it's using HTTP proxies. Usually the proxy information is set in the browser preferences... but you probably checked those yet.

Yeah, I fixed it. Took a little more digging in their FAQ.

OTOH, since it had already started one workset, I have to wait until that is over before expecting it to change.

Either that or you could simply uninstall and then reinstall the client.
  • Zhaneel · 5 years ago
Meh... it was 92 of 110 ligands done in one day. And it is working on Smallpox, so I wasn't too upset. I hope it will have changed when I get home.
