Same here. A neighbor's TiG4 plugged into the net almost automatically using DHCP. Are you able to see files on Windoze pcs though? That, I never bothered with.

I would say that I hate you, but that would be rather impolite. I'll just say that I'm insanely jealous. It's rather scary, I'm becoming a Mac zealot. I would really love to have an iBook right now. I've used some at work and in class for one of my labs. Very slick piece of equipment. Anywhere I spend much time on campus has 802.11b coverage as well whichwould make it all that much more convinient. I've been looking around at used laptops, but I still technically need the money to make a purchase.

On a related note, have you seen the new G5. Wow. Drool. One came into work a while back to get imaged for a user. That with a 23" cinema display. Maybe one day when I'm independently wealthy.

I want an Apple. Draaz scoffs every time I say that, but it's true! *sigh* Need more funds.

    The G5 I believe, is drool-worthy. (:

OH well. I suppose I shall have to be content with what I have for now.

Know how you feel. I dream big but start with small mods - adding more RAM, bigger hdd, that sort of thing. When what I should've done in the first place is save the cash and buy components. But who can keep up? By the time you get the first item on your list, it's obsolete in the next few months.

Yep. I made the mistake of actually financing a laptop once. *shudder*

That's why we chose an Apple. Upgrading an Apple is "throw it away, buy a new one". Fortunately, that'll be a couple of years down the road, considering Apple's pace when it comes to introducing new products. ;)

With alienware you can upgrade pretty easily without tossing the whole thing. The GPU, HDD and ram are upgradeable by taking out a couple screws. Its uber!

    re: Petrol
The thing to do is buy a barebones system that will slightly exceed your needs as far as CPU and ram. The key isnt to keep up to date with technology, the key is to keep your technology up to your needs. Theres no need to buy the new and latest stuff if your not going to be using it. I built my own system about two or three years ago (athlon 1.3) and am still using it. The only thing ive upgraded since building it is an additional harddrive, stick of ram and a new video card. For me, theres no real need to buy a 3Ghz machine when a 1.5 will run my stuff just fine. And so ends my theology on personal technology.

AMEN!! That is exactly how I feel. If a machine can keep up with me, and I don't get impatient, it's doing pretty damn good in the first place. That's all I need.

I hear ya, Hornet. But pc hardware envy is a powerful beast. DX
Especially when I'm building systems for people? Oh man.....

Yeah thats true...its funny to realize the the laptop im getting is going to be over twice the cpu speed of my desktop. And yeah, its nice to be able to say "Haha, my hardware is better than yours"....but instead you can try saying "Haha I still have money in my wallet to buy other gadgets." :)
