    *hugs his new fox*

I was skeptical.. so far, it rocks.

    TabPrefs is a must-have.

(edit: oh, and the icon is irresistably cool as well... that's all)

Yeah Firefox is nice :) It even seems to have fixed this intermittent renedering problem I was getting in 0.7 on G-Blog where the left most table would expand to about 100% of the screen and all the content would be squished into about two columns over on the right :/

I'm getting an error when I try to install TabPrefs, so I got TabExtensions instead. Now I just need my mouse gestures back and I'll have all the features I liked in Opera.

TabPrefs is a bit tricky to install since the download link is checking for your browser version and doesn't know Firefox yet. Save the link target and drag the item to your browser or turn off Javascript before you click the link.

    TabPrefs? Mouse gestures?

    What are mouse gestures?

Mozilla gives you the option to open pages in "tabs" inside the main window, rather than opening multiple windows. Very useful in XP when the taskbar likes to consolidate multiple windows into a single button. TabPrefs lets you set Mozilla to open a new tab every time it would normally open a new window.

Mouse gestures are a standard feature in Opera, and I had a Firebird extension for them. They let you activate common commands by holding the right mouse button and performing a simple "gesture" with the mouse. For example, drag left for the back button, drag right for the forward button, dragging down opens a new tab/page, etc. It really speeds things up, and drives me crazy when I try to use My Computer or have to use IE :)

Now could any of you help me with a little problem? I've got XP with multiple profiles set up, and making Firefox the default browser seems to affect all profiles. Unfortunately, everyone else uses IE and they're not too happy about their desktop website shortcuts opening my browser. Is there any way to make Firefox the default on my profile only? Or at least set IE to default again?

Ekoo reported a problem where Firefox took over all the images on his machine, i.e. it made itself the default application for JPG/GIF/PNG etc. It didn't do that for me, but I was doing a custom install, he was going with the standard install. Maybe that's the reason?

I have no idea how to fix your current problem, tho. Maybe post this bug on the Mozilla forums or Bugzilla. Can't hurt.

    All-In-One Mouse Gestures

Still working on the Skypilot theme. I've found the official site for it, but the install link is broken >_

Shual - I knew what tabbed browsing was (love it), I just wasn't sure about TabPrefs. Thanks for the explanations. Mouse gestures sounds pretty cool.

Still not sure which browser I want to keep on with. I had just started using Opera again and was liking it a lot. Now I'm using Firefox, and I'm just not sure which I like better.

Firefox. You like Firefox better. Period.

    ;)

Homorous little fact... our company's sales intranet's main navigation doesn't show in Firefox. Me thinks that might not be a good thing.

Also, our main content deployment interface (3rd party) won't function in firefox either. Oh well, I still use it for personal browsing.

Neither does ours. Actually our main intranet navigation doesn't show. Well, who cares. Still got IE6 if I have to look something up on the intranet.

That's how I look at it. I still have to use it for some things which is annoying, but Firefox gets most of it done.

The question is.. Does Firefox fall short in these instances, or are these sites that far off of standards?
  • Xyleth · 5 years ago
usually it's a case of the sites making use of propertary Microsoft extensions such as ActiveX components in order to make themselves work.

You'll find the same is true of a lot of buisness applications that claim to be 'browser based'. What they actually mean is that you can have any browser you want as long as it's IE 5.5 or above :p

In our case it's just baaaaaaaaaad old DHTML. In the day it was written Al Gore hadn't even invented the Internet yet.

In my experience the sites that refuse to work rely either on crappy (IE-only) DHTML and/or ActiveX components, as Xyleth already stated.

    lmao.

Yeah, our menu script is pretty damn old, and very tempermental.

I gave up Opera because pages would sometimes not show up properly (like Warcry's site management system). I still have an occasional problem with Firebird/Firefox, but not nearly as often as with Opera. Plus, I don't have that annoying banner ad anymore :)
