But but... I'm still figuring out this version!

beats her head against a wall.
  • Susi · 5 years ago
Dito! See you this weekend ;P
(you can show me the first drafts of your filthy filthy porn then :)))))))))))))))
  • Carlo Zottmann · 5 years ago
Justine, don't worry... that's what the new version is supposed to be: simpler yet more powerful. I hope I'll manage to achieve that. But really, if you're familiar w/ the current G-Blog.net, you shouldn't have any problems with the new version either.

GB v2 is very exciting news muchly. BossG, a suggestion: how about a GB how-to? I remember scouring other users' blogs to see how to link thumbs to larger images. Finally found it, though having it in a FAQish sort of page would be immensely handy.

Other: more skins? Customisable skins maybe? I likes me a pretty blog. Sexy blog.
    Porn? Ist gut =D

Happy 2004 to everybody! Best Wishes for the New Year.

    Always the newbie,
    Pet
  • Zhaneel · 5 years ago
@8 It is something that has been mentioned before. I might put one together.

Yeah, a FAQ would be a handy addition, I agree.

I plan on adding image galleries in v2, BTW.

I also plan on introducing two or three types of accounts. Standard accounts will be free, those will be pretty much the type of account you're using right now. Except maybe BlogWatch, everything available now will remain free. Image galleries and a number of other features will be Gold accounts and above, which will go for $1/month or so. Not trying to milk you people, just looking for ways to upgrade the site while remaining able to pay for the hosting. I think a buck per month for extra features is reasonable. Mind you, upgrading won't be necessary, if you can live with the features you have now, you should be fine with free/Standard.

I'm not going to plaster the site w/ ads for free members neither, don't worry. I'll keep the site from becoming an advertisement palooza if I can help it. :) Heh.

Don't feel like going into more details right now. Work first, then talk. ;)

As for question about the things mentioned above, go ahead, I'll answer as honest as possible.

G-blog.net v2 with extra curry, eh? sounds good.

    'appy new 'ear.
  • -Kay- · 5 years ago
$1 = 55p ... Think my budget can strech to that. lol

Am pritty sure my budget could strech to more for a WAP/GPRS blog ;)
  • jeck · 5 years ago
Ah happey new year to the G-Masta!

As I thought for some time about things I'd like to have here, I'll add my Wishlist for v2:

mark blog entries with a language and the ability to subscribe only to entries in certain languagesEdited by...-line optional, when entry is edited by owner.customizable stylesheets or regions within stylesheetsLess "games"-categories.infinite (or way bigger) no. of fave-links

You CAN indeed delete a comment.
  • Imaboyo · 5 years ago
Not wishing to turn this into a wishlist... but "Friends only" posts would be very handy :)
  • jeck · 5 years ago
@#15 I know. But I wanted to vent off a little...
Sorry, that I bothered the public with this.

    bows deeply and apologizes.
  • petrol · 5 years ago
    Second that "more fave links".
WHY are you still using IE?!!!?
  • Lupus · 5 years ago
As I recall, friends-only posts were discussed before, but concerns were raised that it would encourage 'cliques' as found in other sites. G-blog was always more open in that respect, using the bozo and foes system to filter out people who you don't want to talk with.
  • jeck · 5 years ago
@#18: I installed Firebird* on my network drive at work, but together with the proxy there it's somewhat wonky when refreshing pages. When I 'refresh' g-blog manually with Firebird nothing happens, while IE manages to get an update. Thus I'm reading nearly everything else with FB, but am stuck with IE for g-blog. Maybe this can be remedied with v2...

@#19: Exactly what I thought. The possibility to post for certain groups only would IMHO change the basic idea of g-blog. Besides: Glue is available for everyone, so groups could always set up their own box.

*Three month later I got a call from the admin who complained about the 80 megs cache in my profile. *ooops*

I'll see what I can do, guys.

    - As for the higher number of bookmarks/fave-links: planned.
    - More themes: planned.
    - Posts visible to friends only: not happening, sorry.
    - "Edited"-line: planned as option for Gold members. :P
    - Cellphone support: I really like the concept, I'll see what I can do.
    - Language support: Still pondering about that.
    - Customizable CSS: probably not, but I might change my mind to some degree. Not sure yet.
    - Categories: I'm working on a slightly different concept than the current one already, we'll see.

    Indeed.

    @20

The answer is Opera. Yay! for Opera Everyone wins!
    Ahem.
Yes sir. Opera is now the best browser in the world.

(Am I the only here who thinks that Opera rocks harder than Moz or FB?)

The ability to add more than one friend to your friend list at once.

Other than that G-Blog is already more or less perfect IMO. Intrested in seeing V2 tho.

I'm with Gossip. Much as I do use the Friends only filters at LJ, it is a different community & a different blog. I did G-blog the way it is.

    Question: Why less game categories?

Defense of IE: IE is the (IIRC) the most used browser. So Gossip is more likely to have more exposure as well as more users by still allowing IE as a good browser. It is what I use, and I don't see any likelihood of me changing that. I couldn't even if I wanted to do so at work, and I'm sure there are many other people who have admin controlled machines with no ability to install new programs. I'm not saying IE is the best browser, by any stretch of the imagination, but I am saying it is something that should be supported by G-blog.

I try to deliver a cross-plattform/browser site. I think we're waaaaaaaaaay past that "Best viewed with..." stuff, really. As long as your browser is able to deal with standards, you should be fine. :)

[Quote] Question: Why less game categories? [Quote]

Because I seldom see someone use them. I myself always found the generic "Games" category sufficient and find the whole lot of different categories is difficult to handle. So I would appreciate if there would be fewer of them if possible - or a tree-like structure.

I would like a fun catergoy. I always have lots of entries that I simple lable as "fun", nothing else.

most of the time it takes me longer to select a category for my entry then writing the entry itself, I'm not good with choices.

May I suggest that all accounts be allowed a single "profile image" to be added to the database? We just about all use them anyway. Of course, you should limit image dimensions and file size to something sane.

Yould could also look at generating a small version (the size used in the comments) on the fly (the way gallery does it) and store both - trade off some DB storage space with the bandwidth savings... (may not be worth it, but an idea)

The current build of MozillaFirebird does not actually require and install... just unzip the archive and drag a shortcut to the app to your desktop (or wherever else youwant to launch the app from )

    :)
  • Carlo Zottmann · 5 years ago
As I've said, the free accounts will pretty much have the same features as they do now. This, of course, includes the profile images, don't worry. I was talking about real galleries in addition to the already existing account features.
  • Hooloovoo · 5 years ago
    Right, I get that. :)

What I was suggesting was having a profile image table added to the GLUE database, so that profile images were hosted locally. That way, a user could upload a profile image to g-blog using thier control panel, instead of just linking to an image hosted off-site.
  • Carlo Zottmann · 5 years ago
Ah, that's what you meant. Yes, good idea. Might end up doing that!

As always, let me know if you want someone to bang on your new code. I'd be more than happy to help test, provide feedback, and generally annoy the dev with enhancement requests. :)
  • Carlo Zottmann · 5 years ago
Noted. ;) As soon as I have a stable version to take a look at, the "beta invitations" will go out to those willing to test. :)
